Arsene Wenger will look to bolster his Arsenal forward line with a reported shock £10million swoop for Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe.

The Gunners chief is desperate for more cutting edge in his attack next season and could gamble on 28-year-old England international, Defoe, whose injury problems and loss of form saw him slip down the pecking order at White Hart Lane in the past season.

A report in the Daily Star suggests that Wenger will approach his Spurs counterpart Harry Redknapp about taking Defoe in the hope he can get his career back on track just a short hop across north London following figures of just nine goals in 30 appearances last term.

Whether Redknapp would agree to sell Defoe to his club's main rivals remains to be seen, but he is looking to generate some funds so he can strengthen his own squad for another crack at securing Champions League qualification via a top-four Premier League finish next season, and could be tempted.
