Silly transfer rumours hit a new low as Arsenal star linked with Man Utd

Reports have emerged that Samir Nasri is still uncertain about signing a new deal and he may even consider a switch to Man Utd.
He was one of our best players last season. He scored 15 goals, including some spectacular strikes against Fulham, West Brom and Birmingham. He was instrumental during Arsenal’s superb form up until February. His goals dried up and so did Arsenal’s great run of results.
It is well publicised that Nasri is stalling on a new deal. Apparently, Arsenal are offering him a new contract worth £90,000 per week, but Samir is said to be holding out for £110,000 per week – which is the wage of club captain (and our highest earner) Cesc Fabregas.
Nasri told French TF1′s Telefoot:
“I don’t know if I will sign a new contract.
“Anyway, the discussions are ongoing. For the moment, I don’t think about this. We will speak about it after the match with Poland.”
These comments may be taken out of context, but they are likely to anger Wenger and the Arsenal fans. Gooners are quite used to transfer speculation regarding our best players – Vieira, Henry, Fabregas etc. What is most frustrating is when our players show a lack of loyalty – such as when Adebayor and Fabregas made comments about leaving (however, when it comes to Cesc, it is a bit different because we all know he will go to Barca one day).
However, Nasri made another comment to Telefoot which would have angered our fans even more than those previous quotes.
“Do I want to go to Man United?
First, we should see if it’s real and if it is concrete.”
First, we should see if it’s real and if it is concrete.”That sounds like Nasri likes the idea of transferring to the Premier League Champions. As an Arsenal player, he would be well advised to stay clear of such comments. Then again, Wenger has stated that:
“One thing’s for sure, we’re not selling him to United.”
If Nasri honestly wants to hold out for higher wages, then Arsenal should give it to him, despite the fact that it represents greed to some extent. He is a great player and, as I mentioned the other day, his wages will still be far below those of greedier Premier League stars.
If Wenger decides that we cannot keep Nasri for one reason or another (perhaps that Samir simply wants to leave), then our manager should definitely sell our attacking midfielder immediately. We cannot have a situation where Nasri leaves for free. In addition, after Nasri’s great season, we would be able to cash in on him (as long as that money is properly re-invested, which Wenger did seem to indicate from these quotes). But if Nasri goes to Man Utd, Arsenal fans will never forgive him.
