Roma are considering tempting Arsenal into selling Gael Clichy by offering them Jeremy Menez in exchange, it has been claimed.

According to Metro, Roma are monitoring the French left-back with genuine interest and are prepared to test the Gunners' willingness to keep the 25-year-old by using Menez to sweeten any potential deal.

Should Roma table a formal offer, Arsenal's decision will be tempered by whether or not Clichy agrees to sign a new contract this summer, with his current deal set to expire in 2012.

Certainly, Arsene Wenger would see the acquisition of the versatile Menez as positive news for Arsenal, but the Gunners' boss remains hopeful he can convince Clichy to extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium.

Menez has been linked with a move to Arsenal for a number of months and is known to have an admirer in Wenger, while he has also been watched by Liverpool scouts in the past.
