Arsène Wenger would not be drawn on possible transfer targets at his pre-match press conference on Friday because he is concentrating on this weekend’s Premier League opener against Newcastle.

A number of names have been linked with a move to Emirates Stadium this week with Birmingham defender Scott Dann the latest player being suggested by the media.

Wenger did not rule out further additions this summer but refused to comment on any speculation ahead of Saturday’s trip to St. James’ Park.

“I believe the best thing for us, one day before the season starts, is not to focus on the possible transfers,” he said.

“What we want today is to focus on the players who play tomorrow and not the players who do not play."
