It is not easy to understand what will happen to Arsenal this summer with many expecting a busy transfer market and others believing there will be very little or no activity at all as it was the case last year.
One man who believes players will join and others will leave is former centre back Martin Keown. The Englishman explained that manager Arsene Wenger will come under pressure having ended another season with no trophies adding that the Frenchman is however still the one to lead the Gunners to glory.
Asked about the transfer market, the 44-year old said that there could be a “radical surgery” during the summer as Wenger will try to fix all problems in his squad with Keown hoping for the “right ingredients” to be found before the new campaign kicks-off.
The Englishman concluded by saying that what the Gunners need is more steel, more competitiveness and more experience as he stressed the importance of positive results, something that was lacking this season.
Ahead of the summer transfer window, Keown said:
The manager will come under pressure now but no more than the pressure he puts himself under. The season didn’t end on a high note for Arsenal but I am very confident in Arsene Wenger.
There could be radical surgery to try and improve the team and bring extra bodies in. I hope he is able to find the right ingredients because it just needs a bit more steel, competitiveness and experience.
The results have to change. When they get themselves into a position of winning again, they have to make it count.
