Jack Wilshere: Why I’m still getting used to fame

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere revealed it’s “weird” to be a popular face in the world of football, admitting that one is to adopt a careful approach.
One of the best players for Arsenal this season, the 19-year old was just “one of the many” reserves in the academy until two years but after taking full advantage of a loan spell with Bolton Wanderers he went straight into Arsene Wenger’s starting eleven becoming a fan-favourite after only one year as regular.
On how he is dealing with fame, he told the Club’s official website that he made mistakes when he was younger but due to the nature of his job he had to mature and grow up quickly, adding that it’s funny to see players featured in papers just because of a new tattoo or because they moved house.
A popular figure on Twitter, the Englishman’s message to young players is to always listen to your manager and to be a professional both on and off the pitch, living your life as a footballer.
On getting used to fame, Wilshere said:
It’s weird, definitely, and you have to be really careful. Obviously I made mistakes when I was young, like most people, but I’ve had to grow up quickly.
People are always watching and sometimes it makes me laugh. It’s a story in the papers if I get a tattoo or move house – I do find that really strange.
It’s part and parcel of football now, you have to deal with it and be professional.
If I could give any advice to young players now it would be to listen to what people tell you, and live your life off the pitch how you do on it – always be professional and live your life as a footballer.
