The consequences of Arsenal failing to take an automatic group stage spot for the Champions League next season is starting to hit home, for one Arsenal player at least.

Arsenal defender, Johan Djourou is the first Arsenal player to make it clear the cost to Arsenal if they failed to make it beyond the qualification stages, in fact, for Djourou it is simply unthinkable

“We have to be in the Champions League. It would be unthinkable not to be,” said Djourou.

“We’ve been in this situation before against Celtic and it wasn’t ideal, but we got the job done.

“We have to make sure we get through the play-off. We are quite capable of doing it – we have nothing to fear.

“We know last season was not the best but we have a chance to put that behind us now and have some success.”

It would be unthinkable for the Arsenal faithful if their beloved Gunners fail to make the group stage and while Djourou can claim that Arsenal have nothing to fear, it is certainly not going to be a stress free period for Arsene Wenger, his team and the Arsenal fans.

This is what happens when you conduct an end of season meltdown, Arsenal should never have put themselves in this position in the first place and only have themselves to blame.
