According to my average ratings, Laurent is one of Arsenal’s best players of the season. I must say he was impressive considering this was his first season at the Club but when he had a bad day at the office, I’m afraid it was very, very bad.
Even if some blame Wojciech for the League Cup Final fiasco, I hold Laurent responsible for the defeat and that was exactly what one expects from someone who is still learning his trade back there.
Will he be a better player next season? Absolutely, but I only see him as a backup in the squad, behind Thomas Vermaelen and hopefully, a new signing.

Just like Laurent, Johan was also enjoying his first-ever season as a regular, even if he joined us years ago. Injuries and more injuries always blocked the progress of the Swiss so it was great to see him wearing the jersey and suffer only “minor” injuries.
I would archive his season as a seesaw. He didn’t start that well but after he settled down at the heart of the defence he was simple a beast back there, having an amazing Christmas period, period during which players usually suffer from fatigue.
He was also one of the few who kept on performing after we lost the League Cup Final. Unfortunately, and this is the reason why his average rating is not as high as Laurent’s, he was shocking in his last few games, and not just for Arsenal, as the England friendly demonstrated last week.

What would have happened to us had Thomas not suffered the injury that basically ruled him out for the rest of the season? We will never know, fact is that Thomas played three games before suffering the injury and he was very good in all of them.

He is one of the nine players who has an average rating of less than 6 and it’s not difficult to understand why. We thought nightmares were over back there when Mikael Silvestre left last summer, instead, he was replaced by another mediocre “veteran” of the game who failed to make an impact.
Make no mistake, there were games in which he was impressive, such as Sunderland away from home but I believe we should expect players to always perform, not just once every month.

If I am to forget the two Poles in goal, as they played less games than Bacary, then the Frenchman is my “man of the season”. I cannot understand why some are so critical of him as he is – in my opinion – one of the best right-backs in the world.
Granted, he can put himself in great positions and delivery very disappointing crosses when pushing forward but let’s not forget that ultimately he is a defender and as a defender he almost always does his job to perfection.

Way too many below-par performances from Gael and his average rating would have been lower had I rated the players for the away game against Shakhtar Donetsk, game in which he made one of his typical mistakes.
More and more reports are saying that he is wanted by Italian Serie A teams and I confess I wouldn’t be upset if he leaves to try his luck in Italy as we desperately need a solid left-back for next season.

One of the most disappointing players of the season. Featured in 23 games so he had plenty of opportunities to show he deserves to stay but only once I rated him more than 6.5. He is one of those who were supposed to do well against small teams like Huddersfield Town and Ipswich Town but I’m afraid he failed miserably.

Also very disappointing this season was Kieran Gibbs. At the start of the season I wanted Arsene to give Kieran a run in the first team to understand if he could replace Gael on the left but when he played it was out of the frying pan and into the fire on the left.
The first time I saw Kieran was at the Emirates Cup and very rarely I was so impressed by one of our youngsters. Incidentally, he played in midfield back then and that is where he belongs. Defensively, he’s a disaster and if Arsene wants to use him there then maybe it would be a good idea to loan him out next season, to a Bolton-like side where they can teach him to defend.
